The Normandy countryside, 1839. Emma marries Doctor Charles Bovary in hopes of escaping her stultifying existence and finding romance. But she is soon tired of her dull husband. She starts running up debts and taking lovers. She falls in love with Rodolphe, a young aristocrat who heartlessly abandons her. In despair, Emma commits suicide. Based on Gustave Flaubert's novel.
