Raymond, a locomotive engineer, has an accident that burns his eyes. A doctor tells him he might recover his sight. Raymond becomes a boarder at a home for the blind where he meets Louise, the blind Braille teacher. She is engaged to the bursar who in a jealous rage tells Raymond that he is incurable. Devastated, Raymond tries to commit suicide but is saved. He goes back to the home where Louise rekindles his hope and reason for living.
