« Quand nous étions petits enfants » a été réalisé à l’occasion du centenaire de la Société pédagogique neuchâteloise. Prévu à l’origine en 8 mm, le film a été finalement tourné en 16 mm noir et blanc. La restauration numérique en 2K a été effectuée à partir du scan de l’inversible image 16 mm en bandes A/B et d’une bande C pour les titres. Le son a été transféré à partir d’une DAT provenant d’une restauration antérieure. Ces éléments ont été déposés par Henry Brandt et sont conservés par la Cinémathèque suisse.

The daily life in the primary school of Taillères, in the La Brévine valley, is filmed over the course of an entire school year, from 1959 to 1960. Henry Brandt's film, which won the Vela d'argento in Locarno in 1961, is a unique testimony to pedagogical processes, with a tender observation of the relationship between the young protagonists, their place of birth and the adult world.
