Claude Lelouch

  • French director, born in Paris in 1937.

    Hidden in darkened cinemas during the Second World War, Claude Lelouch has been passionate about film since his childhood. He became a cameraman filming current events and created his production company Les Films 13 in 1960. Director of several self-produced feature films and of many scopitone films, he first tasted success with The Decadent Influence (1964). In 1966, A Man and a Woman won the Grand Prix at Cannes and two Oscars. Then followed a plethora of more than fifty films including L'Aventure, c'est l'aventure (1972), Bolero (1981), Itinerary of a Spoiled Child (1988), and Crossed Tracks (2007). He considers himself a director of auteur films for the people, and has worked with the biggest French stars, such as Jean-Louis Trintignant, Annie Girardot, Lino Ventura, Michèle Morgan, Jean-Paul Belmondo, and Jean Dujardin. In 2017, he made the choral film Everyone’s Life.
