Maren Ade
In 1998 Maren Ade began studying film production and direction in Munich. During her studies she co-founded the film production company Komplizen Film with Janine Jackowski. Since then she has been working as a writer, director and producer. In 2004 her first feature film The Forest For the Trees premiered in Toronto and won the Special Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2009 her second feature film Everyone Else celebrated its world premiere in competition in Berlin where it received the Silver Bear for Best Film and for Best Actress. Her third feature film Toni Erdmann debuted in competition at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. The film was nominated for the Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Film category and won numerous awards. As a producer she worked on films like Tabu by Miguel Gomes, Sleeping Sickness by Ulrich Köhler and Western by Valeska Grisebach amongst others. In 2017, Maren Ade was a member of the competition jury at the 70th Cannes Film Festival.
