The film"s page
In 1985, the great Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa directed "Ran", a flamboyant epic set in medieval Japan. Chris Marker followed the director and his team on the slopes of Mount Fuji, observing and filming the daily work of a master whose exacting rigor is well known. We see how, for example, he chose his lenses with infinite care and how the famous battle scene was directed. We discover the patience of a filmmaker who defines himself as a hunter on the prowl, ready to capture "a beauty that was not his own". Chris Marker also talks to Kurosawa's closest and oldest collaborators...
