Céline Sciamma
French director, born in Pontoise in 1980.
A graduate of the Fémis in the scriptwriting section, Céline Sciamma directed her graduation script, which became Water Lilies in 2007. Presented at Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section, the film won the Prix Louis-Delluc for first feature film. Her next film, Tomboy (2011), in competition at the Festival de Berlin, was acclaimed by both audiences and critics. In 2014, Céline Sciamma was again in Cannes with Girlhood, presented at the Directors’ Fortnight. She also continues her activity as a scriptwriter, notably for Jean-Baptiste de Laubier, alias Para One, who composed the music for all of her films. She participated in the development of the writing of the series The Returned by Fabrice Gobert, and co-wrote André Téchiné’s Being 17, as well as the script of the animated film My Life as a Courgette, shown at the Directors’ Fortnight in 2016. Portrait de la jeune fille en feu wins the screenplay prize at Cannes in 2019.
