Frederick, chirurgien réputé et petit-fils de l'illustre baron de Frankenstein, se rend en Transylvanie où l'attend son héritage. Accompagné de sa fiancée, la séduisante Elisabeth, le couple est accueilli par trois individus inquiétants. Peu fier de son ascendance, lorsque Frederick découvre la bibliothèque secrète de son grand-père, il décide pourtant de poursuivre ses travaux. Il donne vie à une créature monstrueuse qui enlève Elisabeth.
