Newly qualified as a Doctor, Marie Prieur hangs up her shingle in Isle of Ouessant. Her professional integrity and her kindness soon win her the esteem of the islanders. Her friend and sole confidante, Miss Leblanc, the Island school teacher for twenty-five years, is distressed to see Marie risking her reputation and future by her attachement to Andre Lorenzi, an engineer temporarily at Ouessant to instzal a fog sirene. At the moment Maria refuses to make a sacrifice that Andre demands of her, Miss Leblanc suddenly dies...
