Stromboli
of Roberto RosselliniAfter the Second World War, Karen, a young Lithuanian refugee, is held in an Italian camp. She hopes to escape to Argentina through asylum, but her application is rejected. As a last resort, she marries an Italian fisherman whose dialect she does not speak. He takes her to his island, overlooked by a volcano, where she must come to terms with a lonely life under the constant threat of eruption.
In this online Cineclub organised in collaboration with the Premiers Plans festival in Angers, Christian Petzold, guest of honour at the 34th edition, presents this masterpiece by Roberto Rossellini, carried by Ingrid Bergman, whose thirst for freedom got her banned from Hollywood at the time.
The film will be available from 24 to 30 January inclusive at the special price of €2 in SD and €3 in HD.
