Yann Gonzalez

  • French director, born in Nice in 1977.

    After choosing the film option at high school, Yann Gonzalez started out in journalism before returning to his first love. Between 2006 and 2012, he directed six short films. He then shot his first feature film You and the Night, which drew a lot of attention at the Critics’ Week in 2013. He returned to Cannes in 2017 with the short film Islands that won the Queer Palm. Influenced by the films of Dario Argento and Brian de Palma, he imposes a poetic and baroque visual identity and questions sexuality. For the music of his films, he collaborates with the band M83, led by his brother. His second feature, Knife+Heart, starring Vanessa Paradis, won the Jean Vigo Prize and was released in theatres in June 2018. In 2022, his musical short Hideous pay tribute to horror cinema and question the stigmatization of seropositivity.
