Cristian Mungiu
Romanian director born in 1968 in Lasi.
Cristian Mungiu is one of the key figures of the new generation of Romanian filmmakers that emerged at the beginning of the years 2000. Cristian Mungiu first studied English literature before attending the University of Film in Bucharest. During his studies, he worked as an assistant director for Bertrand Tavernier’s Capitaine Conan or Radu Mihaileanu’s Train of Life. In 2002, his first feature film, Occident premiered at the Director’s Fortnight section in the Cannes Film Festival. In 2007, Mungiu’s second feature, 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, which centers on a illegal abortion under Ceaușescu, won the Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival. He, then, produced and co-directed Tales from the Golden Age, with four other directors, an comical twist on the final 15 years of the Ceaușescu regime. In 2012, Beyond The Hills won Best Screenplay Award at Cannes Film Festival. Both of the actresses of the film won Best Actress Award.
