Joachim Lafosse
Joachim Lafosse was born in 1975 in Brussels. A graduate of the IAD, he directed his first feature film – Private Madness – in 2003, selected in the official competition of the Locarno Film Festival. In 2006, he directed two features, Ça rend heureux (selected in competition at Locarno and winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Festival Premiers Plans in Angers) and Nue propriété with Isabelle Huppert (in competition at the Venice Film Festival). In 2007, he directed Private Lessons, presented at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes in 2008. Joachim Lafosse’s reputation grows from one film to the next, as the national and international renown of Our Children attests (selected for Un Certain Regard, where Emilie Dequenne won the prize for Best Actress). In 2015, he directed The White Knights with a prestigious cast (Vincent Lindon, Valérie Donzelli, Louise Bourgoin, Reda Kateb). The film was presented at Toronto and Saint-Sébastien (Best Director Award). After Love, starring Bérénice Bejo and Cédric Kahn, was presented at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes in 2016 and received excellent reviews from both the critics and audiences. In 2018, he returned with Keep Going, with Virginie Efira and Kacey Mottet-Klein, presented at the Venice Mostra. In 2021, he directed The Restless, which he shot with Leïla Bekhti and Damien Bonnard, selected in the official competition at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. In 2022, he completed filming on Un silence, with Emmanuelle Devos and Daniel Auteuil.
